PRP THERAPY

Regrow hair using your own Platelet-rich-plasma

IS PRP THERAPY RIGHT FOR YOU?

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy for hair loss is a non-surgical procedure that utilizes the stem cells and growth factors from the patient’s own blood to trigger the growth of hair from resting or miniaturized hair follicles. This therapy is suitable for both men and women.  The result of this therapy is fuller and healthier looking hair.

PRP is a three-step medical treatment in which a person’s blood is drawn, processed, and then injected into the scalp.

STEP 1

COLLECTION

Your blood is drawn - typically from your arm - and put into a centrifuge (a machine that spins rapidly to separate fluids of different densities).

STEP 2

PROCESSING

After about 10 minutes in the centrifuge, your blood will have separated into in three layers:

  • platelet-poor plasma

  • platelet-rich plasma

  • red blood cells

STEP 3

REINJECTION

The platelet-rich plasma is drawn up into a syringe and then injected into areas of the scalp that need increased hair growth.

Often times this procedure can be assisted with the use of a cell matrix or A-cell in the PRP.

A-cell is a porcine derived powder that has regenerative properties like stem cells. When combined with PRP concentrate, the serum can then be injected into the scalp to encourage hair growth. The PRP and Acell matrix helps to heal damaged hair follicles which in turn allows for more, and thicker hair growth.

THE BENEFITS OF PRP THERAPY OVER TIME

The PRP procedure comes in more than one dose. It is a series of injections carried out over a period of weeks and redone over several months, so you will begin to see changes as you progress through the treatment. What you may notice are as follows:

  • Your hair may become thicker and denser in the problem areas being treating

  • The appearance of balding and thinning spots may be reversed

  • Your receding hairline may begin to grow back in

  • Your self-confidence will increase gradually as those problem areas may seem to disappear

At times, PRP may be uncomfortable, so topical anesthetic or lidocaine will be used. There is virtually no downtime following a procedure and you should be able to be back to work the next day with no noticeably trace of the PRP injections.

PRP is not a permanent fix. Maintenance of one treatment per year is usually required to maintain results.  Additionally, androgenetic alopecia is caused by the hormone, DHT (dihydrotestosterone) and PRP does not to do anything to mitigate the effects of this hormone.

PRP injections have shown a positive therapeutic effect on both male and female hair loss without major side effects. The potential for using this therapy to boost hair loss thickness and density as a standalone treatment, or after a hair transplant is good.
